Exciting Upcoming Webinar on New Techniques of Cell Imaging

The resolution of light microscopy was long thought to be limited by the wavelength of light, but recent advances have far surpassed this barrier and the most recent technologies are now allowing for the super-resolution imaging of biomolecules at a subcellular level, including the visualizing membrane glycoproteins, observing physical interactions between proteins, and studying cellular processes in 3-D. This webinar will explore how some of the latest technologies can be applied and implemented to advance your research. 

Even if this is not a research interest, it might be interesting for the practicing pathologist to see how new imaging techniques may be applied in the future to routine surgical pathology.

Lung cancer screening and Prevention

As a follow-up to my last post, I provide a link to the teleconference on metformin and lung cancer chemoprophylaxis.  This is exciting and interesting but very preliminary data but the discussion is led by the foremost researchers in this area.  The first 20 or so minutes is an excellent panel discussion; one could skip the last 20 or so minutes of Q&A if pressed for time.

Another related and timely article is from the August 2010 CAP Today which discusses the new EarlyCDT-Lung assay from OncImmune which purports to be a screening test for lung cancer looking at cancer-associated autoantibodies and the possible role of high-resolution CT (hrCT) scanning for early detection.
